Did the Army kidnap man of borderline low IQ? Link

...Neighbors of Ever Jandres of Encino, Calif., recently wrote a letter to U.S. Rep. Howard Berman charging recruitment malfeasance and asking him to look into the 24-year-old learning-disabled epileptic's mysterious disappearance, Mark Crispin Miller reported online at News from Underground. A spokesman for Berman confirmed that the congressman is "very concerned" about the matter.

Jandres, who is Salvadoran and has a borderline low IQ, was apparently "befriended" by a local Army recruiter, who invited him to come with him to Arizona for three days to observe basic training. Five days later, his distraught mother (who speaks no English) got a phone call from her son, who told her, hysterically, that he was on a military base in South Carolina. He was now in the Army, he said, and wasn't allowed to stay on the phone longer than a minute. Family members' and friends' attempts to get any information from the Army have been fruitless...

Something m-e-a-n has got ahold of Florida

Mon Apr 25, 2005 at 10:25:07 PM PDT

Florida creeps, stay the hell out of Wisconsin!

Apparently in furtherance of Florida's 'love thy neighbor' fervor, Fl Republicans, with a good dose of help from Democrats,  passed a crazy law allowing people to stand and shoot if they reasonably perceive "it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm." Washington Post

Most state laws require a person to try to retreat before deadly force is allowed.

Time to Pay, MBNA!

Wed Mar 09, 2005 at 10:39:49 AM PDT

MBNA (a starting place) owes consumers a BIG debt of gratitude for purchasing the credit and interest rates offered to them.

It was a consumer purchase of sorts, and MBNA made a lot of money. MBNA has even gotten to play "gotcha" with its consumers by baiting and switching interest rates for the least payment infraction, or non at all.

Disappointed with discussion on Bankruptcy Reform

Act looming on the horizon.

Sorry, guys.  This may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like the most disjointed discussions have occured over the Bankrutcy Reform Act that looms.  If my comments fall into that category, I'm ready to try again.

Marquette U. Under by Siege by 'Adopt A Sniper' College Republicans

Fri Feb 11, 2005 at 09:00:05 AM PDT

Marquette Univeristy is a fine Jesuit university in Milwaukee, WI.  I am proudly a double alum. It  is currently under siege by its black-hearted College Republicans and Republican alums.  I think you'll find the issues interesting.

You may have heard, but the College Republicans received permission to set up a 'Support the Troops' table in the Union during the annual Marquette Mission Week, last week.  What all media have left out of their coverage of this debacle is that Marquette's guest speaker was Arun Gandhi, grandson of The Gandhi.  The Mission Week theme was "Peace."

Harry Reid Against Bankruptcy Relief for Families.

Thu Feb 10, 2005 at 08:19:56 AM PDT

You saw it, right?  There is a new Harvard study that reveals 50% of bankruptcy filings come from relentless medical bills - many from the insured, middle class.  Divorce is another huge contributor to the reasons for family bankruptcy.  Irresponsible  credit card usuage accounts for less than one percent (1%).

Do you know what grinds me down most about the Republican mind set? The meanness.  Republicans  want laws, laws and more laws that reflect their smug judgment, 'well if you just held yourself together better, you wouldn't be in this <insert crisis> mess'.
